I'm not feeling that great
I'm not catching on fire today
Love has started to fade
I'm not going to smile today
I'm not gonna laugh
You're out living it up today
I've got dues to pay"

Fact 14: I Love Memes
3 pathogens detected
Phantom says she's the "last English-speaking blogger in the world to do this meme". Yet another way I know that she doesn't read MY blog! :)Accent: A tasteful blend of Valley Girl (totally!) what my audiologist friend calls "the Inland Northwest accent". I don't know what that one is, though.
Booze: Hmm, my tastes vary from day to day, though in my old age I have turned pretty girly. Rum and coke, martinis (regular and most any variation), frou-frou blended things, Bailey's, and some beers (Fat Tire and Jeremiah Red come to mind). Oh, and Ace hard pear cider, though hard apple cider gives me a stomach ache.
Chore I hate: Dishes. But I do them anyway.
Dog or cat: Both. I love dogs for playing and cats for cuddling. Non-cuddly cats are pretty useless to me, though.
Essential electronics: cell phone, laptop.
Favorite cologne(s): There was this one called Raw Vanilla that I used to like. Matt wears none, and I like him, so it is not that important to me.
Gold or silver: My wedding set and cross are both white gold. I love the color of a clean, shiny chestnut horse though, which can be a dark gold color.
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Insomnia: Fairly frequently. The blend of being a very light sleeper and having an anxiety disorder make this fun for me.
Job title: Wife, cashier, bather, vet assistant, student
Kids: Ambivalent.
Living arrangements: Two bedroom apartment with 1 husband, 2 snakes, 2 goldfish, and no plants.
Most admirable trait: I am open to changing my opinion, and don't usually judge people.
Number of sexual partners: One!
Overnight hospital stays: A bunch when I was a premie, one when I had a head injury 3 years ago.
Phobias: All of 'em. Heights, enclosed spaces, bugs (every kind), pain, the dark, being alone, being with too many people, fires, looking stupid.
Quote: "A true friend stabs you in the front." -Oscar Wilde
Also, the "Love your flesh" passage in Toni Morrison's Beloved
Religion: Christian, attepting to be.
Siblings: One older sister, one twin brother.
Time I wake up: As early as 7:30, as late as 10:30.
Unusual talent or skill: None of which I'm aware.
Vegetable I refuse to eat: No veggies, but I hate beans.
Worst habit: Self-deprecation and chewing myself (nails, cuticles, inside of mouth, etc.)
X-rays: Many. Thousands. Most recently for the toothpick incident, though they unsurprisingly found nothing (toothpicks are NOT radio-opaque, people!)
Yummy foods I make: Kugel (delicious). Spicy Pumpkin Curry Soup. Bread. Cakes. Lasagna. Tuna salad. Pimiento Cheese Spread. Guacamole. I love to cook!
Zodiac sign: Leo. I think that's why I seek attention.

[Some] Facts in [Some] Days: Fact 13
1 pathogens detected
The first meal I ever remember cooking was for 12 people. It was:- Cornish Came Hens (roasted for each individual)
- Mashed potatoes
- Rolls with freshly churned butter (and by churned, I mean shook up in an old tupperware until it was butter-yes, I was eight)
- Salad
- Homemade lemonade (mmmmm...)
- Chocolate Trifle (Caked cubed up abd layered with pudding and whipped cream and fudge sauce)
Kayla and I did that for a Girl Scout cooking badge. I freaked her out by dancing the raw, naked, buttered hens on the counter while singing, "I'm a chickie! I'm a chickie!"
The next time I cooked a complete meal was 13 years later.

Fact 12: My hair has a life of its own
4 pathogens detected
Alright, since the last 4 posts I have tried have caused spectacular system failure, I will try this one with no links or formatting or any kind of fanciness. When I was young, I hated my hair. After it stopped being useful to make me stand out for commercial auditions, it was only useful to make me stand out to bullies. In third grade, my dad took me during one of his custody weekends and had it cut off from my waist to my shoulders at his barbers. My mom was pissed, but I liked the new me because There was, at least, less of that evil orangey-red hair.
In junior high, it had all groown back, but my new way of dimishing it was to leave it both unwashed and unbrushed, in a tangled dirty rope on the back of my neck. That system worked pretty well until I realized I actually liked my hair.
This was about senior year of high school, when I was gaining more confidence. My best friend Kayla had shown me how to wear my hair in the oh-so-trendy "messy bun", which meant that my hair looked at least artfully messy, and usually fairly tidy.
When I went to college, my next-door dormmate was named Alisha, and she had the Most Gorgeous Hair that anyone has ever seen. Long, thick, black, curly, and luxurious. When I finally screwed up the courage to tell her I was in love with it, she said something remarkable:
"Jeni, I like yours way more. I always wanted curly red hair."
Well, this news threw me, probably more than it should have. Alisha, whose hair I might have run naked through the science building just to attain, wished it could look like mine? After this, all topics were easy for me to broach with her, and it was she that taught me how curly-haired people wear their hair down (with gel and a diffuser, to start with). With the help of another dormie (Megan, for those in the know), I also learned how to straighten my hair in less than 2 hours, a real acheivement for my kinky hair.
Voila! I had an abundance of hairstyles I liked! Mary recently added another with the pinned up tendril look (which I am still mastering).
However, there are still some days like today. Days in which I wash and blow-dry my hair in preparation for straightening it. The way my hair looks in between the blow-dryer step and the straightening iron step can only be described as wild. Poofy, frizzy, voluminous, fluffy, cousin-it-esque, any way you look at it it is unmaneageable.
But on days like today, that's how I wish I could wear it!

Not to politicize my blog, but...
1 pathogens detected
This makes me sick. Pro-choice, Pro-life, whatever, making someone face murder charges for abortion is just infuriating to me. Ugh Ugh Ugh Ugh.Maybe I'll post a more coherent train of though later, but maybe not. Instead, just go read Phantom's post about it. She's a brilliant writer, and can hold it together better than I can about htis, apparently.
Ugh.

Fact 11: I Have Moods
0 pathogens detected
And one recurring mood this week was the "I don't want to post anything" mood.Matt was gone from Wednesday until Sunday, which allowed me to reflect on my moods more easily (only because I was more focused on myself). Let's take a look at some of the moods I possessed during those4.5 days.
1. The "exhausted" mood
Yeah, so I feel like I've been working pretty much nonstop. And, since I've been working closing shifts (3-10p.m.), I have been staying up WAY past my bedtime. And, if you've ever worked as a cashier, you know how tiring it is to stand in the same place for 7 hours.
2. The "let's hang out" mood
Usually I don't mind time to myself, but I have been craving social-ness lately. This means that I went to Gravy's on Monday to chill, a party at the clinic on Tuesday, margaritas with PetStore employees on Wednesday and Friday, and Gravy's for an impromptu dinner party on Thursday. Seriously, that's usually more social outings than I have in a month. Incidentally, this has not helped mood #1 on the bedtime front, but it has been strangely renewing to my spirits. Especially dinner on Thursday. That was amazing. Or maybe it was just the halibut that refreshed me.
3. The "productivity" mood
Okay, so when am I ever in the mood to do chores? But I have tidied up the house and done some laundry, just because I felt like it. Weird...
4. The "no stove, no stove, I just want to be alone" mood
Me? not wanting to cook? I can't even fathom it, but that's how it's been. I made kugel this morning, and that's the first thing that's taken more than 5 minutes to cook I've made all week.
So all of these moods have waxed and waned this week, and will probably have all but disappeared by next week. But this is just how I am, inconsistent as the wind.
