Alternate Hypotheses
Post Office Worker: "Oh. He's not back yet."
Me: "Well, when is he coming back?"
P: "He usually gets in around 5:30."
M: "Can I pick it up then?"
P: "No, we close at 5."
M: So can I pick it up from you tomorrow?"
P: "No, but we will try to deliver it before 3."
M: "I can't be there then, I have classes all day. Can I have you hold it?"
P: "No. We'll try to deliver it. If we can't deliver it after the third day, we will either hold it here or send it back."
M: "So there's no way that I can get my next day package before Friday, assuming you don't return it to the sender?"
P: "No."
Idiots. When Matt went in to try his hand, it wasn't much better. No, we couldn't come wait for the guy holding my package at 5:30. No, we couldn't instruct them to hold my package even though the slip of paper they gave us said we could. Yes, we could try to get there tomorrow morning to get the package before the trucks left, but no, he didn't know what time they left.
Conclusion? No cell phones for awhile yet...
Moral of the story? Use FedEx.
