    I hate the USPS. So, apparently they came at 10:00 this morning and left one of those "i missed you" notes. Portentously, there was no "pick up after this time" written in. I took the note to the post office, and the conversation went like this:
    Post Office Worker: "Oh. He's not back yet."
    Me: "Well, when is he coming back?"
    P: "He usually gets in around 5:30."
    M: "Can I pick it up then?"
    P: "No, we close at 5."
    M: So can I pick it up from you tomorrow?"
    P: "No, but we will try to deliver it before 3."
    M: "I can't be there then, I have classes all day. Can I have you hold it?"
    P: "No. We'll try to deliver it. If we can't deliver it after the third day, we will either hold it here or send it back."
    M: "So there's no way that I can get my next day package before Friday, assuming you don't return it to the sender?"
    P: "No."

    Idiots. When Matt went in to try his hand, it wasn't much better. No, we couldn't come wait for the guy holding my package at 5:30. No, we couldn't instruct them to hold my package even though the slip of paper they gave us said we could. Yes, we could try to get there tomorrow morning to get the package before the trucks left, but no, he didn't know what time they left.

    Conclusion? No cell phones for awhile yet...
    Moral of the story? Use FedEx.

    Alright, so the cell phones were sent next day, and supposed to arrive "before three o'clock", but they aren't here yet. I have to leave right at three to pick up my husband, and I just know that they are going to get here at like 3:10 and i won't be able to get them since you have to sign for the package. That means that We won't be able to get them until like Thursday. Boo. In other news, there will be a horse on campus tomorrow! For the comparative vertebrate anatomy midterm, Dr. Mike's neighbor Ellen will be trailering her baby paint pony over to whitworth. Once there, I (who am auditing the class and thus do not take tests) will point out parts of her (the pony, not Ellen) anatomy and the students will have to write down what they are. Paralumbar fossa, anyone?

    Yay! I get to go castrate some horses, then spend the rest of the day relaxing!!!! I have not had such a relaxed schedule since 2 months before the wedding.

    Matt and I will have cell phones as of Monday or Tuesday. My number will be the same, and if you want matt's number, IM one of us. Our new phones are the Samsung-a670, supposedly good ones. They threw in Matt's for free after they screwed a bunch of stuff up.

    Our thank you notes will be arriving soon, so I will start writing thank you's. I promise.

    p.s. I don't get to be Hermione Granger for Halloween. My sister "accidentally" used all the material making her costume, so there was none left over for me. :P

    Yay! I passed this physics test! I got at least an 80 on it, according to the key that Dr. K posted. Wow! My average up till this point was a 58!

    In other news, L.A. was good. The memorial service was awesomely evangelical, if a bit clumsy, and I loved hearing and sharing memories of Uncle Bob. I also enjoyed the time spent with friends, especially my sister and brother, and A.J. and Andrew. They are two fantastic guys, and B.J.'s significantly upped my level of serenity.

    This week has been nutty as I try to play catch up, but i think i am almost there.

    I lost my cell phone, and Verizon is being stupid, so if you try to call me, it won't work.

    Ahhhhh...
    Today, Teri Sardinia invited me out to her and Dr. Mike's farm. We all moved hay around, then went for a drive around the neighbors' field to scope out a path for the winter sleigh rides. It was wonderful because:
    1. Horses are transforming to my attitude, especially when the horses in question are methodical, calm, gentle creatures that seem to send the message that all is and will be alright in the world.
    2. The two of them are awesomely encouraging people that are a blessing from the Lord! It is hard to find two people that are as patient and kind. I don't know if they have any idea of the impact they have on students' lives.

    Then, I went home, had dinner, and went to a margarita party at Mary's.

    Not a bad day, friends. Not bad at all.

    Ok, so here's the scoop: while I agree that some things in this life involve graphic images, and sometimes there is art that is offensive, I also thing that that poster was put up to create sensation and controversy. I also don't think that a picture of Bjork wearing scandalous clothing is any more artistic than that Brittany Spears ad where she's grabbing her boob. Her music may be art, but her cover is cleavage. And while people on campus may enjoy watching moulin rouge or whatever, it doesn't mean that they are showing it on a big screen in the middle of campus.

    Here is part of the Whitworth College mission statement:
    "...Whitworth's mission is to provide its diverse student body with an education of the mind and heart, equipping its graduates to honor god, follow Christ, and serve humanity..."

    Here is a quote from Bill Robinson, our president, in his last email to us (this quote refers to the increased use of pornography on campus):

    "Morally, I cannot preside over a system funded by people giving to our mission if it is being used in a way that violates that mission."

    Bill later said that he had some students who emailed him saying, "Hey! It's legal, it's our lives, get over it." To this his response was, if you wish you could be in a place where the mission statement of honoring God and following Christ was not taken seriously, there are plenty of other campuses out there.

    The reason people go to (and stay) at Whitworth it because it takes its mission seriously. I was honestly offended when, in physics class today, our professor showed a video that included a bunch of profanity and vulgarity. Maybe some of the other students thought it was hip or cutting-edge or whatever, but I thought it was unedifying, non-educational, and in violation with Whitworth's mission. I told my professor my opinions, and I also plan to write a letter to the chair of the department.

    If people wish that their college campus was more "cosmopolitan", showed more graphic images, accepted more profanity, and was altogether more "real", if you want to call it that, go somewhere else. I prefer to be in a place that will equip me to honor God and follow Christ, not make me more loving of my sinful nature.

    Today was Matt's birthday! Freakin' old man turned 24... We went to The Onion,, a tasty though overpriced restaurant. Matt danced like a flamingo during the birthday song, and we ate too much. Oh, and I shattered a martini glass on my foot. yay!

    Hey! Jose (jocelyn) has a blog! Will wonders never cease?

    Today is Dr. Mike's surprise birthday partay. The funny part is that everyone was planning on him arriving at 4, but I talked to him today and he said he was going on the "vet call" (the ploy to get him to far west farms) around 5, after homecoming game and the powderpuff game. I guess he's not the only one that's gonna be surprised...

    For his present, matt and I made him a Forrest Baird voodoo doll. He is on the Core leadership team of which Dr. Baird is the leader, and they occasionally conflict. The doll looks awesome!

    Life is still meshuganah around here. Classes keep me busy from 8 am straight to somewhere between 3 and 6 p.m., then it's homework time. Sick. In addition, we are (still) trying to set up the apartment, as well as spend quality time together. Sometimes, I just wish there were more hours in the day.
