I love being a bio major. All we ever talk about is sex. In genetics, we were talking on Monday about this trait called
Klinefelter syndrome, a genetic trait caused by XXY chromosomes, with all of the interesting pictures Dr. Chaney had found on the internet to show us. Then this week in developmental, we are studying fertilization. We got to extract gametes from sea urchins in lab (by injecting their gonads with potassium chloride, you cause them to pump out sperm and eggs) and hand-fertilize the eggs. Our groups project was to check on the eggs every 2 hours to see how many fertilized, as well as watching the embryos grow and form. It was so beautiful, just looking under a microscope at something actually becoming greater then the sum of its parts while you watch. It definitely made me stand in awe of the God who figured all of this out. Anyway, in the class part of devmen bio we got to sit for an hour today and listen to him talk about sperm formation and fertilization, which is always exciting. Then, in animal physiology, we are talking about functions of blood, and Dr. Mike had a great time explaining to us the hydraulic mechanism for penile erection. 3 classes, three different sex talks. In addition to all of this, it is Sexuality Awareness week at Whitworth, so everyone around me is talking about this discussion of forum they went to about the sex trade or masturbation or sexual orientation or whatever. I am swamped.
In other news, its snowing here, which is sad because I thought we were starting spring. Such key words such as "Spring semester" or "spring break" or "Peeps" are messing up my inner calendar, I guess. There is less than 6 months until
the wedding, which is exciting. Other than sleep deprivation, I am well and happy, but I would definitely be better if you left a comment!
