I Know The Definition Of Luxury

I just spent an hour and a half cuddling with my husband. In the middle of the afternoon. Instead of making dinner.

This, my friends, is the life.

How deep the Father’s love for us,

    How vast beyond all measure,

That He should give His only Son

To make a wretch His treasure.

How great the pain of searing loss,

The Father turns His face away

As wounds which mar the Chosen One

    Bring many sons to glory.

Behold the Man upon the cross,

    My sin upon His shoulders.

Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice

    Call out among the scoffers.

It was my sin that held Him there

    Until it was accomplished;

His dying breath has brought me life,

I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything-

No gifts, no power, no wisdom-

But I will boast in Jesus Christ

    His death and resurrection.

Why should I gain from His reward?

    I cannot give an answer

But this I know with all my heart:

His wounds have paid my ransom.

How does she look? Matt helped me figure out what it really means to build a template, so I spent less time just screwing around and more time in focused building mode.

    Yippee!

I am in the process of changing the template- cleaning it up a lot, making the page cleaner, jazzing some stuff up. I still (obviously) need to change the spacing of some stuff and the colors of the links, but what do you all think about this general layout?

Matt and I have been listening to the new Jars of Clay album for he past few day. Most of you know that Matt's general disdain for current artists relaxes for precious few exceptions, and Jars is one of these. For me, theirs was the first album I loved when I forayed into the oft-heinous world of Christian music. We both love Jars, especially if i left the zoo and who we are instead.

Anyway, the preliminary report is positive but guarded. There are some real winners in this album, but the album on the whole is, so far, less than extraordinary. It does not have the cohesive narrative of some of their albums, and the songs don't feel as original. Some of the songs even seem derived not-too-subtly from other artists' styles (for instance, Light Gives Heat sounds a good deal like early Peter Gabriel). This is not neccesarily a defeat, but is different than the original Jars sound I have grown to love.

Anyway, here are some lyrics from the songs we like so far:

"There are times meant for breaking
    And words to ignore
And a bent to our souls
When our skin is at war
    If leaving were freedom
Well, we'd both walk right out of that door
    Maybe we can stay
'Til the last drop of water flows under the bridge"

"I'm feeling older than my years
I'm feeling pain inside my chest
It's love that keeps me silent
It's my silence that you detest
    Rivers flow into the oceans
    And oceans never fill
I want to kiss your lips, but I know I never will"

"Around the ceiling of the heart
Is where we feel the things that send us away
To where the blind can see the stars
So do you see the stars, do you see the stars?"

"Sometimes when I lose my grip, I wonder what to make of heaven
All the times I thought to reach up
All the times I had to give
    Babies underneath their beds
Hospitals that cannot treat all the wounds that money causes,
    All the comforts of cathedrals
All the cries of thirsty children - this is our inheritance"

I can only remember one time that I lied when I was a kid.

I had gone to my dad's apartment (he had custody every other weekend or so), and eaten 1 popsicle and some french fries. But when my mom was driving me home, and she asked what I'd eaten, I made up an elaborate meal dad had made, with fish stew and baked potatoes and salad. I don't even really remember why I lied.

I really hate the fact that all of our professors tell us to check our student email "at LEAST twice a day" and how it's SO BLOODY important to check our email and that is their PRIMARY means of communication to us and how if we don't check our email we will all SURELY DIE.

I hate this because students listen to the dire need to check email. Then, 26,584 students all try to check their email and the school is surprised at how the server is overloaded all the time. To quote their email service page, "We are experiencing an unexpected overload to the email servers."

    Grrrrr!

I just now noticed that all of my recent facts have had headings missing the word "about". Sigh.

As an aside, we have been trying to get a bank account in Edinburgh for about 7 weeks. What the freakin' heck is goin' on, people?!?!? Today they mailed me saying that my account was finally activated, but I theoretically couldn't wire money into it for another month.

    Yeah, no.

The teller is going to call the main office tomorrow to request an Iban number (needed for wire routing), which should me mailed to us by the end of next week. Poop on everyone, I say.

p.s. Matt finally tried Nutella today. On a Tesco Digesive. He went back for more!

I love Nutella spread over Tesco brand digestive biscuits. In general, I love Nutella, and I love digestives, but the twain, upon meeting, form a delicacy of untoward delight.

This may be a reason for my life's problems.

You scored as John Calvin. Much of what is now called Calvinism had more to do with his followers than Calvin himself, and so you may or may not be committed to TULIP, though God's sovereignty is all important.
