Anyway, this back thing on friday didn't mix well with the term paper that was due on Monday (the "over 1/3" guy). Since I couldn't sit at a computer to type it, I trieed to lay on my back while typing. It would have worked well, except for one small problem:
My computer broke!
It has been circling the drain for awhile, mind you. A couple of weeks ago, it asked me to enter my HDD password, which does not exist. Then, it has been randomly shutting off and restarting in a DOS mode that politely says "MEDIA FAILURE!!!!! CHECK CABLE!!!!!!!" But when it wasn't doing that, it worked okay. So the way I "solved" the problem (until friday) was to just send work over to matt's computer via AIM whenever I was done working on it.
On Friday, I calmly set my laptop on my lab and started working on my paper. I had just finished sending a draft over to Matt when the screen froze. "No problem",I thought to myself. "I will just restart."
At the very instant that thought entered my mind, my screen went black. It then began emitting a sound that is best transliterated as "GRRRARARARAAAARRRRRRRKKKKKKKCCHCCHHHHRRRRARARRRR". Imagine, if you will, the cross between an old airplane engine and sanpaper on metal.
What the?!?!? It then restarted itself with the aforementioned DOS welcome message.
So, this weekend was spent replacing the hard drive and reinstalling Windows. It seems to work now, except it makes this quiet and almost cheerful "pingping" noise about every 12 seconds.
Any ideas?
